What you'll do:

As the Foundational Science Curriculum Lead, you will play a key role in the growth and evolution of an exceptional body of content. Specifically, you will:

  • Design exciting, comprehensive curricula that introduce and explain foundational science from first principles, and connect common experience with abstractions
  • Provide a sense of what makes a concept interesting and what it means/implies about the natural world
  • Write delightful quizzes with narrative voice that teach concepts through active problem solving
  • Utilize and develop interactive elements to produce effective laboratory environments (you're teaching science from afar, there is no water table)
  • Organize complex projects, set goals, and prioritize actions, including managing other content writers 
  • Gather feedback from users and from Brilliant's science team to improve and iterate

This is you:

  • Excellent understanding of science (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.) and practical experience in applying it
  • See science as an integrative set of phenomena, not separated bodies of knowledge
  • Have basic familiarity with modern interpretations of science (information theory, networks, computation), and are comfortable using them to frame foundational concepts as appropriate
  • Distill complex concepts, while understanding and addressing the limitations and distortions of your distillation
  • Excellent sense of what makes an explanation or example great
  • Comfortable taking a few guiding principles and developing an innovative curriculum from scratch
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including a solid command of English grammar and usage
  • Wants to work in a fast-paced startup environment

To land an interview, you will need at least one of the following, in addition to your resume:

  • A writing sample that explains a foundational science concept (ex: buoyancy, work energy theorem, fitness landscapes in evolution) to a middle school student, with an eye toward higher level treatments.
  • Examples of practical labs and a sketch of how you'd implement using our media formats.
